Happy 2009 y'all! Yesterday was my first day back at work as well as my first time on a bike since before Christmas which proved to be slightly problematic.
First of all I only called-in about an hour late since I had to change wheels (it had tubulars on), install some pedals taken from another bike and find my shoes' insoles which I finally discovered hiding between a wall and the radiator I used to dry them. Finally hopped on my bike and my immediate reaction was: "There's something wrong". I stopped to check whether my wheels were in crooked or... i don't really know what I expected to find but there was nothing wrong. I got back on, astounded at how weird the handling felt and how I had never noticed it. The bike in question is an 80's crit racer with a non-original fork that has the wrong amount of rake. It's funny how you'll get used to things.
The rest of the day went well. About an hour later, I had regained my confidence and was zipping through cars downtown. It wasn't nearly as dead as I had expected, but that was certainly due to the fact that only 3 riders showed up (out of 10!). That meant lot's of sticking downtown covering our base of short distance calls while the drivers took care of the longer distance stuff. Yay!
Today was uneventful.
